I'm encountering an issue whenever I try to start a new game. The intro looks fine, but as soon as I click on "Setup party" the text window fades away, and I'm stuck on an infinite "loading screen". The only thing I can do is press escape or click on the menu button in the top left corner, which does open the menu, but after closing it, the background is now stuck, and it obviously doesn't help with the game not loading.
I'm using the 1.0.3.1 build, downloaded here on itch.io
Edit : I'll try the other builds to see if it's relevent to this issue.
2nd Edit : Issue solved, after getting no issues with the 1.0.3, I deleted the files and downloaded it again. I'm assuming something went wrong either with the download or the unzipping at this point.
is there any way to determine what is needed to trigger certain events? I know this game has possession and I turned on dev mode but certain events are just unavailable, like Symphony of Souls
I keep getting an issue where the text for several different encounters doesn't seem to load properly. Instead of loading the event text, it will just show the "continue" button (or whatever the advance button says for that encounter). It has happened on encounters that I saw perfectly fine in previous playthroughs, and I've had at least a couple times where an encounter that's text didn't load in a previous playthrough loaded just fine that time around. Sometimes the text loading fails partway through an encounter, and sometimes it fails to load right from the start of an encounter.
That's odd, maybe have something to do with the game trying to skip repeated encounters if it only happens on repeat plays. Can you upload your player.log and player-prev.log files? Typically they're found in a location like:
C:\Users\[PC Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Blue Fairy Media LLC\The Exile of Aphrodisia (2023)
I see two issues with your logs files. On is a file not found problem for the file he Exile of Aphrodisia (2023)_Data/StreamingAssets\EncounterText/ominousRumblingsInTheHighPass/ominousRumblingsInTheHighPass_choose_scout.txt which seems very strange why that one particular file is not present. Re-downloading the game may help with that (save game files shouldn't be affected).
As for the others, it looks like your party was spawning Instincts Kick In events that should have been disabled due to your party's particular composition. Can you also send any save game files from shortly before that issue began, if you still have them?

Is there any other option to not use the mouse to select options? Every time I get a situation I can choose my option in an event, I automatically click the top option. It could just be my mouse but if I can that would be useful knowledge
Unfortunately there are not any other ways to select options aside from the mouse at this time.
Perhaps in a the future we could use arrows keys or something else to change which button has focus, though if your mouse is performing multiple clicks in quick succession with you meaning to, that what you have described would probably cause issues in many other parts in the game as well, not just in encounters.

Maybe your computer was still holding onto the .meta file and throwing access violations until that lock cleared up. Unfortunately without a log file I won't be able to confirm this.
Back from traveling now. If you haven't returned the copy of the game, can you send me your Player.log file? Typically for Windows it'll be in a directory ending in:

At some point or other I'd like to add in a new player transformation or two, and possibly some more cursed artifacts. But that's not confirmed yet; we're currently focusing on a sequel in development now.
Sometimes they turn into items or animals that become part of the party's inventory, but generally yes, they don't count toward party size nor will be involved in any future events. A few afflictions don't end in a transformation--the negative-trait-giving affliction you can get in the desert is one such example--but those are few.
This is one of the largest complaints we have about Exile, so for the sequel we're working on, transformed party members will generally be able to still play an active role, depending on their particular transformation.
What's different about the demo and the paid version? Kind of want to poke to see some of the differences from the original release, but this one also wants to understand what it can actually experience that is different from that version in this demo, if anything.
If by demo you mean the older Electron version that's been out a number of years now, that's not a demo but rather the same game on an older engine. It doesn't have some of the new features likes maps, player perks, or cursed artifacts. There's a more complete list of what features are new in the 2023 edition on the Itch and Steam storefront.
If you mean the demo of the newer Unity-engine The Exile of Aphrodisia 2023, it limits the encounter selection down about 30 of the usual 220+ encounters, and the game ends shortly after entering the desert or jungle terrains.
I just opened the game but no matter what I press in the censured mode start-up screen I can't move on. The box outlines the buttons but no matter what I can't even play.
What are the future plans for this version of the game? More artifacts? New routes? Is there a plan to update older art work to a new style? A future roadmap?
We're in a 1.0 state, so it's best to think of the game as being done, and our focus is bugfixes, quality of life, and polish rather than entirely new features.
Right now we are actively working on adding in a basic modding system that allows for third party encounter / afflictions / art to be easily added in as mods, and we have talked about but are not yet committed to adding in a new player transformation and Steam / in-game achievements.

Have browse some, and find that not all afflictions have in requirements event that can apply it. Also Wandering Bimbo event haven't trigger affliction.
Yes, a lot of afflictions only happen if you get certain skill or random roll outcomes. In any given playthrough of the game you'll only see a small set of the game's total content.
Will we get any more player TFs? I've purchased the new version here, and I've already finished most of these TFs in the past version. I don't have too much reason to re-run. :'(

Any recommendations on what new player transformations you'd want to see? With 29 in the game it's become a little challenging to think of new and unique ones.
Maybe one that has a body swap element to it perhaps could be an idea. An escapee stalker with a body branded with a curse could be searching for a new body (preferably that of a leader to the stalker) to escape to in order to dodge the effects of what the curse would do, which would slowly alter their form with strength and skills diminished for the purpose of making the curse's victims easier to contain when they had taken full effect.
By the time the changes would have finished, the appearance of the victim would look almost as far from a leader as one could get, especially with the collar and other slave clothing they were supplied with. If there are other events to do with the forms, perhaps the collar would be something that could complicate things in some areas. She would have to rely heavily on her party's loyalty and protection to reach their destinations without problems.
That's one idea.. ^^"
Another form that might be good to introduce is like an imp or a lesser succubus (Not a full fledged one). To avoid similarities, she could be a sort of cranky and demanding type rather than a seductress being. Smaller wings, more slender than voluptuous, etc.
Some other idea for later could also be to introduce a new type of cursed artifacts that take even longer to activate, though affect the player instead of party members for 'Game Over' effects. Maybe they can be toggled as well in case users may not want them, but why not include the player in some sort of inanimate action as well for daring to let the artifact cross 50-100 power without selling or whatever it is? That could open up a large selection of options too. : P

We have no plans to release a 2024 version. We may add in new content into 2023 in the future, however.

We never got any info back regarding the Player.log file or save game files to look into this. Would you be able to provide that?
It looks like the problem solved itself? I closed it out and jumped back in (5 hours later). Able to play the game now, can't wait to give it a run.

whats different about 2023 and the free version?
- New artwork for Sanctuary of Domumeris, Tavern, Apothecary, and Sanctuary.
- New feature: cursed artifacts. Very valuable items that grow in power the longer you carry them and the more they curse party members.
